This is the first time I ever ventured out onto the Natchez Trace hours after a freshly fallen snow — with camera in hand. Here’s what I saw, and some idea of how treacherous the driving can be on the Natchez Trace Parkway when there is snow or ice on the roads.

While there are a fair amount of walking and hiking trails along the Natchez Trace Parkway — especially near the rest stops and tourist facilities — the fact of the matter is, you will find many people walking on the roadway itself. There no truer sign of autumn than the vibrant colors witnessed along the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tennessee. Early November appears to be the best time to view the fall foliage in the Natchez Trace State Park… in the northernmost part towards Nashville at least.
