The one and only place the speed limit changes on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tennessee is between milemarker 428.7 and milemarker 429.5 in Leiper’s Fork, TN.
But wait, a point of clarification is in order…
Heading north, at milemarker 429.5, the speed limit decreases from 50 mph to 40 mph.
Heading south, at milemarker 428.7, the speed limit increases form 40 mph to 50 mph.
That means, there is a portion of the Natchez Trace Parkway where the speed limit is “somewhat questionable” — for nearly a mile.
Meaning… If you’re heading north between 428.7 and 429.5, then you can go as much as 50 mph through here. However, if you’re heading south between those same milemarkers, you must obey the 40 mph speed limit.
Strange but true.
Aside from this tiny stretch of roadway, the entire length of the Natchez Trace Parkway has a 50 mph speed limit.
We’ve lived in the Nashville area since 2001 — and all 3 of our houses have been situated relatively close to the Natchez Trace Parkway. To me, the ‘The Trace’ is a hidden gem of Nashville — a place to go when you want to get away from it all and be one with nature. I’ve hiked it, biked it, motorcycled it, walked it with my dogs, and driven my car on The Natchez Trace Parkway more times than I can count! This is where I share some of my favorite things to do along the Natchez Trace Parkway — which runs 444 miles from Nashville Tennessee to Natchez Mississippi and through parts of Alabama. When I’m not enjoying the beautiful outdoors along the Natchez Trace Parkway, you’ll find me at the corner of Good News & Fun Times as publisher of The Fun Times Guide (32 fun & helpful websites).
