Does It Snow On The Natchez Trace Parkway?

snow-on-natchez-trace-parkway.jpgI can't speak for the entire parkway, but on the northern end, near Nashville, it does!

This is the first time I ever ventured out onto the Natchez Trace hours after a freshly fallen snow -- with camera in hand.

Here's what I saw...

At approximately noon on a Friday, there were hardly any cars on the road with me during my hour spent on the Parkway.

The 4 that I saw were:

  • a professional photographer (said so on the vehicle) stopped to snap photos of her children sledding

  • a sedan with an older man at the wheel

  • a sedan with a middle-aged woman behind the wheel

  • an "official" ranger vehicle with persons inside who appeared to be accessing road conditions

I felt pretty safe in my four-wheel-drive Jeep.

The roads themselves weren't even bad. In fact, had they been, the "officials" would have closed off roads preventing public access.

For the most part, the Natchez Trace Parkway itself was clear & dry. The best part: The snowy views on both sides of the road. Fresh-fallen untouched snow lends itself to some amazing sights.

However... the moment I caught sight of the first bridge... woah!

It looked pretty scary, because the entire bridge -- which had a very long (and twisty) span to it -- was almost completely covered with snow and ice.

These are both ends of the same bridge:

This was the view from the middle of the same bridge:

So yeah...

It snows on the Natchez Trace Parkway!
